Stewart Gardner’s Bio

I was elected to represent Simmondley on High Peak Borough Council in May 2019. I’ve lived in the village for over 20 years and pride myself on being accessible to local residents who have queries or concerns. I’ve been involved in lots of casework since being elected and the issues have varied widely: from planning to the positioning of litter bins, to weed killing and grass cutting  plus parking and traffic issues. I’ve conducted regular litter picks to keep the area as tidy as possible and created the Simmondley Security WhatsApp group so residents can stay informed of any crime or security concerns in the area. I take part in the monthly Councillor’s advice surgery with my Labour colleagues and am also on two council committees that scrutinise important work in our borough – the Community Select Committee and the Standards Committee.

The most rewarding part of the role so far has been the ability to help out good causes via my councillor initiative fund. Examples include helping The Glossopdale Harriers fund the creation of a community running track on the trail, supporting a Simmondley beginners running group for women and girls and helping provide new equipment for Dinting Cricket Club.
