About Lance

Lance was born and grew up in North Wales, and moved to New Mills in 1986. He has worked as a social worker and lecturer in mental health. He has been active in many voluntary organisations throughout his life and has been a New Mills Town Councillor since 1999 as well as a borough councillor.

An extremely hard working councillor, Lance has regularly attended both Town & Borough Council meetings and is a very active campaigner for local services and improvements to our environment.

He is an active supporter of many of the Towns youth organisations and has obtained funding for most of them.

He was involved in the initial planning for the Hydro, helped start the allotments and is the Founder chairman, since 2002, of the New Mills Community Orchard which now supplies tons of free fruit to the residents of New Mills.

He organised a well supported public meeting and 2 petitions which helped to save our local ambulance station.

He has since become a member of the East Midlands Ambulance Service Foundation Trust, the Stepping Hill Foundation Trust and the Derbyshire Community Health Foundation Trust so that he will be well placed to work on future proposals that might affect New Mills.

He is a Public Governor at the Stepping Hill Hospital to try and ensure that local people get as full a range of medical services as possible and is working on a steering group to get more help to enable people to stay at home longer or get out of hospital quicker.

Lance is a very active member of the Royal British Legion, he is the Chairman of the Hayfield Branch, helping to look after the needs of the town’s ex-service personnel and their families.

He is also a member of the Court of the University of Derby where he tries to ensure that appropriate training/education courses are available for our young people at the Buxton Campus.

He arranged, very quickly, for the Police & Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire to visit New Mills to hear from residents and shopkeepers following the Whit Bank holiday weekend of public disorder, break-ins etc.

Lance serves on the Development Control and Licensing Committees. He is the councillor for New Mills West Ward on High Peak Borough Council.
