Hi, I’m Alan Smith – the Labour Candidate for the by-election on 7th April.
This by-election is to fill the vacancy on High Peak Borough Council left by the sad death of Councillor Keith Savage.
I’m a Harpur Hill resident of 12 years, and I want to make sure that Cote Heath and Harpur Hill have a strong voice in the Council. I chose to live in Harpur Hill, it’s a great place to live, but it could be better. I’d like to improve our infrastructure for the benefit of all, for example to investigate the development of safe and accessible off-road routes into town as well as making sure that public transport links are preserved. Whether you’re young or old, long-term resident or newcomer, we need to make our ward a better place to live for everyone. We can make these changes by listening to each other and working together. If elected, I will make your voice heard.
I am a climber and cyclist and belong to Buxton Cycling and Mountaineering clubs. Along with many other local residents, I signed up with Buxton Street By Street to help neighbours during the Covid pandemic. I have also been involved with Buxton Drama League and Friends of Buxton Station.
I look forward to meeting you over the next few weeks and hope that you will vote for me on 7th April so that I can represent the interests of the community in which I live.
Alan Smith is Labour’s Borough Council Candidate for Cote Heath Ward on High Peak Borough Council.
