Leading Buxton councillor Fiona Sloman is on a mission to make sure new homes around the town are affordable for local families.
Wherever new housing is being built – from Harpur Hill to Fairfield – she has battled to get a good deal for Buxton and High Peak families. The latest scheme to be finished is on Granby Road, Fairfield, where all the homes will soon be occupied. The borough council has the sole nomination rights for rented housing; while other homes are a mix of shared ownership and rent-to-buy.
Fiona said: “Our homes are the foundations on which we build our lives and I want to see a variety of high-quality properties available across Buxton which meet local demand and help people into their own home.
“The Granby Road does just that by offering a range of affordable options for local people; while in Harpur Hill we negotiated a discount scheme for local buyers.”
